When a loved one passes away, whether it is expected or sudden, it can be a very traumatic and distressing time. You are legally required to register the death of a loved one within 5 days, except in certain circumstances where the period may be extended to 14 days. If the coroner is investigating the death he will issue a certificate directly to the registrars office and then you will be required to register the death in the normal way. In the case of a coroners inquest it is not required for you to personally register the death.
